Job Description

Senior Sustainability Consultant

📍 Bristol | 💼 Flexible Hybrid Working | 💰 Salary DOE + Benefits + Bonus

Help shape the future of sustainable design.

A forward-thinking MEP consultancy based in Bristol is on the lookout for a Senior Sustainability Consultant to help lead the charge on low-carbon, high-performance building projects. From concept to delivery, you’ll play a key role in embedding sustainability at every stage of the design process — not just ticking boxes, but influencing real outcomes.

This team doesn’t follow the standard route — they ask “why?”, challenge assumptions, and deliver creative, data-driven energy strategies for buildings that work better for people and the planet.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Leading sustainability and energy strategy input on a range of exciting projects
  • Writing and presenting Energy & Sustainability Statements for planning applications
  • Overseeing BREEAM assessments, energy modelling and compliance reporting
  • Advising clients and design teams on renewables, low/zero carbon technologies and retrofit solutions
  • Staying ahead of regulatory shifts and helping the team and clients do the same
  • Supporting junior consultants and guiding them through best practice
  • Getting involved in shaping the team’s approach and technical direction

About you:

You’re someone who’s passionate about delivering real sustainability—not just compliance. You know your way around UK building regs, low-energy systems, and environmental certifications, and you're confident working with clients, architects, and engineers alike.

We’re looking for:
  • 6+ years’ experience in sustainability within the built environment
  • Strong technical understanding of energy modelling, planning policy, and assessment tools (SAP/SBEM, TM54, BREEAM, etc.)
  • A background in engineering, sustainability, or building physics (degree qualified)
  • Good communicator, naturally curious, and always pushing for better
  • Ideally on the way to or already chartered (CIBSE, IEMA, IES, etc.)

What’s in it for you?
  • đź’» Hybrid & flexible working – choose how you work best
  • 🌿 Work on meaningful, sustainability-first projects (retrofit, mixed-use, education, commercial)
  • 🎯 Clear progression opportunities and technical development
  • 👥 Join a small, collaborative team that values creativity, independence, and impact
  • đź’ˇ Genuine input into strategy, tools, and the future of the sustainability offer
  • 🚴‍♂️ Cycle-to-work scheme, gym membership, private medical, pension, bonus, and more
