Every year, we at Elite Consultancy Network publish our Remuneration Report, a deep dive into the latest salaries, market trends, and hiring insights across the heavy equipment, powered access, and crane sectors.
Our survey of over 750 industry professionals reveals not just how the sector is compensating its talent, but more importantly, what employees truly value in today’s evolving workplace.
Salaries are steadying - and so are expectations
This year, we saw a stabilisation in salary growth with average salaries rising by just 4%, down from 9% last year. That’s a big shift, and with inflation still outpacing wage growth, people are starting to rethink what really matters in a role.
We’re seeing fewer candidates chasing top-line pay and focus more on job security, career growth, and work-life balance. It's clear that priorities are changing and fast.
A more diverse workforce
We’re pleased to report that this year saw our highest-ever female response rate at 9%. However, gender pay disparities persist, particularly in operational roles, where we identified a 3% pay gap.
Our data also highlights a need for more inclusive practices around age, ethnicity, and disability, insights we are committed to using to help our clients build stronger, more representative teams.
What today’s talent really wants
Our survey also uncovered key employee expectations around benefits and company culture:
- Financial Benefits: 62% of respondents prioritise a vehicle or car allowance, especially those in field-based roles.
- Flexibility: While hybrid work remains popular, flexible hours have emerged as the top preference.
- Wellbeing: More than half of respondent’s value private medical insurance, and employee assistance programs (EAPs) have become the most preferred mental health support offering.
- Health & Fitness: Perks such as gym discounts and mindfulness subscriptions are increasingly expected as part of a modern EVP.
A market on the move: Demand, Tech, and Sustainability
Despite a slower start in early 2024, demand has picked up pace. We’ve recorded a 26% year-on-year increase in UK and international assignments, with strong growth in Forestry, Waste, Recycling, Groundcare, and Power Generation.
Our report also explores how the industry is adapting to:
- Automation and electrification of machinery,
- Sustainable practices to reduce environmental impact,
- Emerging technologies such as IoT and VR that enhance efficiency and safety.
