Salary: £24,943 - £25,392 (actual pro-rata pay received for term-time working and inclusive of holiday pay). Full time equivalent is £28,444-£28,956.
About Us: Pertemps Education is working with a specialist school for Children with Social Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, graded good by Ofsted. The school have children in both key stage 1 and 2, class sizes are no bigger than five children, and all children have talented 1:1 Teaching Assistants.
The school follows the national curriculum, and have an excellent professional development opportunity to ensure staff are invested in and are supported. The school has a very friendly and excellent dedicated team of staff who are very proud of the children and their achievements.
Job Description: We are looking for an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant or Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will work with pupils who have a primary need of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), along with additional needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). This role requires a compassionate and resilient individual who can effectively support pupils exhibiting physically challenging behaviors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to pupils with SEMH needs and associated conditions, fostering a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies.
- Support the emotional and social development of pupils, encouraging positive behavior and interactions.
- Employ appropriate interventions and de-escalation techniques to manage physically challenging behaviors.
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and other staff to create and maintain a supportive educational environment.
- Monitor and document pupil progress, providing regular feedback and updates to the teaching team.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills in working with SEMH and associated needs.
- Proven experience as a Teaching Assistant or HLTA in an SEMH setting or similar environment.
- Understanding of SEMH, ASD, ADHD, PDA, and ODD, along with strategies to support these needs.
- Experience with physical intervention techniques is desirable.
