Position Details:
  • Job Title: Loader (Recycling & Waste) 
  • Location: Caldicot
  • Employment Type: Temporary (11 weeks)
  • Start Date: 21 July 2025
  • Hours: 37 hours per week
    • Monday to Thursday: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
    • Friday: 7:00 AM - 2:30 PM (including bank holidays, except 25th/26th December and 1st January)
  • Salary:
    • PAYE: £12.21 per hour
    • Umbrella: £15.48 per hour

As a Loader in the Recycling and Waste team, you’ll play a vital role in delivering efficient, high-quality kerbside collection services. You’ll collect various types of waste, promote recycling, and ensure public spaces are left clean and safe. What You’ll Do:
  • Collect waste (food, garden, residual, hygiene, dry recycling, and trade waste) from households and businesses as per collection schedules.
  • Ensure collections are completed on time, leaving areas clean, safe, and tidy.
  • Return receptacles to their original locations, avoiding obstruction of pavements or driveways.
  • Monitor contamination in recycling collections and follow appropriate procedures.
  • Maintain professionalism and courtesy when interacting with the public.
  • Perform assisted and extra allocation collections accurately.
  • Comply with health and safety policies and safe working practices.
  • Complete relevant paperwork and documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Report incidents or concerns to supervisors immediately.
  • Undertake additional duties such as litter picking, bin emptying, or safe removal of sharps (with relevant training).
  • Occasionally work outside normal hours, including bank holidays or voluntary weekend/evening rotas for tasks like market waste collection or town centre cleaning.
  • Support emergency responses (e.g., flooding, snow clearance, storm debris removal) as directed.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a reliable, team-oriented individual with a positive attitude and a commitment to quality service. You’ll need:
  • Essential:
    • Relevant experience in a similar operational environment (e.g., waste, recycling, or manual labour).
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently without close supervision.
    • Good understanding of health and safety practices and commitment to following policies.
    • Strong communication skills and a courteous approach to public interactions.
    • Commitment to providing high-quality service to residents and businesses.
    • Willingness to undertake relevant training to perform duties safely and effectively.
    • Flexibility to work outside core hours, including bank holidays and occasional weekends/evenings for voluntary rotas or emergencies.
    • Eligibility to work in the UK.
    • Two years of references/work history.
  • Desirable:
    • A clean and current driving licence (not essential but advantageous).
    • Welsh language skills (Level 1).
    • Experience in waste or recycling operations.
