Network Recruitment Wales is excited to offer two temporary Children’s Social Worker positions within the Family Support Teams in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide vital duty cover, supporting children and families through short-term interventions in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Position Details:

- Employment Type: Temporary (12 weeks)
- Start Date: 21 July 2025
- Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, office-based)
- Salary:
- PAYE: £28.15 per hour
- Umbrella: £36.16 per hour
As a Children’s Social Worker, you’ll provide essential short-term support to the Family Support Teams, working with children on the Child Protection Register and those in pre- and care proceedings. This role focuses on duty cover, including visits, meetings, section 47 enquiries, and other tasks, without long-term case allocation. You’ll play a key role in delivering strength-based, compassionate support to children and families, aligning with the All Wales Pledge to ensure high-quality social care.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide duty cover for the Family Support Teams, including home visits, meetings, and section 47 enquiries.
- Support children and families on a short-term basis, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver strength-based interventions.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional standards.
- Travel across the Vale of Glamorgan as needed to meet service demands.
- Contribute to a supportive team environment, hitting the ground running with your expertise.
We’re seeking dedicated and experienced social workers who are ready to make an immediate impact. You’ll need:
- Essential:
- A recognised social work qualification and active registration with Social Care Wales.
- Experience in children’s social care, particularly with child protection or care proceedings.
- A valid driving licence and ability to travel across the Vale of Glamorgan.
- A kind, strength-based approach to working with children and families.
- Ability to work full-time in the Barry Docks office (this is not a hybrid role).
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Enhanced DBS certificate.
- Five years of references/work history.
- Commitment to signing a confidentiality agreement.
- Desirable:
- Experience conducting section 47 enquiries or working in family support teams.
- Strong organisational skills to manage a varied workload effectively.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
- Signed confidentiality agreement.
- Enhanced DBS certificate.
- Five years of references/work history.
- Social Care Wales registration.
