Job Title: Assistant Team Manager – Children’s Services (Social Care Qualified)
Location: Usk, Monmouthshire
Employment Type: Temporary (13 Weeks)
Start Date: 16 February 2026
Hours: 37 hours per week
Work Pattern: 3 days office-based / 2 days remote (must live within easy commuting distance – max 1 hour)

Rate:
  • PAYE: £30.90 per hour
  • Umbrella: £41.55 per hour
Are you an experienced Senior Social Worker ready to step into a leadership role at the front door of Children’s Services?
Network Recruitment Wales is seeking an Assistant Team Manager to join the Early Help and Assessment Team within Monmouthshire Children’s Services for a 13-week temporary assignment.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced, supportive Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) environment, providing frontline decision-making, leadership, and professional oversight to safeguard children and families at points of crisis.

What You’ll Do:
  • Act as part of the management team within the Early Help, Duty and Assessment Service, providing senior oversight of referrals and risk assessment.
  • Work closely with IAA workers and the wider MASH to make timely, defensible decisions on Duty to Report forms and incoming referrals.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support Social Workers and IAA workers, ensuring high-quality practice and timely case progression.
  • Chair and minute strategy discussions when required and ensure accurate, up-to-date recording on the database.
  • Provide coaching and professional development support, including supervision, audits, assisted fieldwork, and court attendance where necessary.
  • Support the Team Manager and deputise in their absence, promoting best practice and continuous service improvement.
  • Maintain awareness of legislative and policy changes and ensure consistent implementation across the team.
  • Ensure high standards of record-keeping, data collection, and compliance with departmental policies.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and safe working practices in line with Council policies.

What We’re Looking For:
  • A fully qualified and registered Social Worker with Social Care Wales registration.
  • Proven experience in a senior role within a MASH or front-door assessment setting (essential).
  • Experience supervising Social Workers and IAA workers.
  • Strong decision-making, leadership, and risk assessment skills.
  • Confidence working in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication, case management, and professional judgement skills.
  • Ability to commute to County Hall, Usk (within 1 hour maximum).
Please note: only candidates with demonstrable senior/MASH experience will be considered.

  • 5 years’ references / work history
  • Proof of Social Work qualification
