Job Description

Science Academic Coach

Want to help secure stronger GCSE science results? Coach small groups and individuals so concepts stick and exam responses improve.

*** Science Academic Coach
*** Immediate start until May 2026
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** ‘Outstanding’ secondary school, Ladywood
*** Provide tailored support and guidance for exam prep in the sciences

The Role:
You will deliver focused clinics that align with the department’s KS4 plan. You will pre-teach key ideas, model concise explanations and guide practice so pupils can apply content and calculations accurately. You will cover required practical’s, data handling, graph skills, units and significant figures, and the language of command words. You will run short, timed tasks using past-paper items to build fluency in biology, chemistry and physics topics. You will diagnose gaps quickly, fix misconceptions with clear worked examples, and record brief outcomes after each session. You will share next steps with class teachers so intervention feeds straight back into lessons and upcoming mocks. You will support calm starts, equipment checks and safe lab routines.

The Candidate & Requirements:
You are methodical and clear. You explain ideas in small steps and move pupils on with purposeful practice.

  • Degree, 2:2 or above in a science discipline, such as Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or a closely related subject.
  • Communication, strong written and spoken English.
  • Enhanced DBS, already held or willingness to obtain.
  • Desire to work in education with intent to progress into science teaching.
  • Experience supporting young people is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Outstanding’ Ladywood secondary runs consistent routines and well organised labs. Science is sequenced in small, connected steps with common approaches to explanations, calculations and practical write-ups. Staff use low-stakes checks and short mocks to target support early. The team shares model answers, required-practical packs and retrieval sets, which keeps preparation efficient and ensures your sessions line up with classroom teaching. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly subject CPD and regular coaching with actionable next targets.
