Job Description
Want hands-on Early Years experience before teacher training?
Help Nursery and Reception children learn through clear routines and purposeful play.
*** EYFS Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** January 2026 – July 2026
*** £80 - £100 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** Support across the EYFS curriculum
The Role:
You will support learning across the EYFS day so classrooms stay calm, organised and language rich. You will set up and rotate continuous provision, prepare simple resources and keep areas tidy so children can choose and use equipment independently. You will deliver short adult-led activities in phonics, early number and fine motor skills, then fold these gains back into play. You will model clear talk at children’s level, extend play with focused questions and prompt turn taking and sharing. You will use visual timetables and now next prompts for smooth transitions. You will capture quick observations, update simple trackers and agree next steps with the class teacher and, where needed, the SENCO. You will follow behaviour and safeguarding procedures and support routines at arrival, snack, outdoor learning and home time.
The Candidate & Requirements:
You are patient, organised and clear in your communication. You follow guidance closely and adapt without fuss so pupils build confidence and independence.
- Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication, confident written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education or with children, strong interest in EYFS and early development.
- Experience working with children, nursery, school or volunteering experience is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary runs predictable EYFS routines from arrival to home time. Indoor and outdoor spaces are well resourced with clear zones for role play, construction, small world, mark making and sensory exploration. Daily phonics is paired with matched reading practice. Early maths is taught in small steps with practical models and frequent retrieval, so methods remain consistent across classes. Staff co-plan and share ready-to-use activity cards, language prompts and observation sheets, which keeps preparation efficient and ensures your sessions line up with the curriculum. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop ins with precise, usable next moves.
How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.
