We’re looking for a driven and experienced Senior Project Manager to take charge of a series of our Security and Emergency Measures Direction (SEMD) Programmes—delivering critical infrastructure that protects and strengthens the UK’s water network.

What you’ll be doing as a Senior Project Manager
Working under the direction of the SEMD Programme Delivery Manager, the role will be part of the Capital Delivery, SEMD Programme Team.  You will have a remit across London and the Thames Valley, driving efficiency and delivering projects to achieve our AMP8 and beyond regulatory commitments.
  • Act as a Senior Project Manager responsible for a series of projects/packages as part of the delivery of Security and Emergency Measures Direction (SEMD) programme.  The role will be delivering projects ranging in scale and complexity from £5m- £45m in value and potential portfolio value of up to £70m.
  • Acting as the Project lead from conception to handover. Being able to come up with robust and safe concepts and/or solutions is a key requirement for this position, and in accordance with project delivery procedures.
  • Take a lead role in managing the planning and delivery of design & build activities, including overseeing the commissioning.
  • Accountable for developing the projects and documentation for submission through the Governance process to achieve the correct funding to deliver the project as required by the internal stakeholders/client.
  • Work with and manage indirectly a wider Thames Water team of multi-function Engineers, Environmental, Construction and Commercial Assurance support.
  • Act as the key contact to support the role of CDM Designer or Principal Designer
  • Be competent in risk management, including risk identification, mitigation and control. Being able to de-risk and add value during the outline design stage is a key requirement for this position.
  • Provide Project Assurance during the delivery, commissioning and handover of assets.
This role is hybrid-based, with the option of having a base location in London or Thames Valley catchment areas.

As part of this role, you must be on-site 2-3 days a week, working 36 hours a week, Monday through Friday.

The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and access to a car; however, please apply if you don't, as we are open to candidates without a vehicle.

What should you bring to the role?
  • Degree level or equivalent demonstrable experience in an engineering discipline.
  • Ideally with proven water industry experience or similar industries with transferable skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge and background in SEMD
  • Experience and knowledge of the end-to-end project delivery process.
  • A focus on supporting and implementing continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in managing project teams and accountability for project delivery, risk management and commercial awareness.
  • Capable of working on several projects and managing the works awarded to Internal stakeholders, framework suppliers/contractors and external consultants.
  • Fully competent at using the appropriate company IT systems and Office software.
