Job Description
Are you ready to shape the future of clean water for millions of customers? We’re looking for a driven, hands-on Engineering Project Manager who thrives on seeing projects through from first idea to final handover. If you’re energised by solving complex engineering challenges, leading contractors and stakeholders, and delivering high‑impact CAPEX projects that keep essential services running safely and efficiently, this is your opportunity to make a real difference across Thames Water’s operational sites.
Please note that the internal job title for this role is ‘Project Engineer’ within the Capital Maintenance Project Team.
What you will be doing as an Electrical or ICA Project Engineer
- Deliver a portfolio of Mechanical, Electrical and ICA projects valued between £100k–£1M.
- Lead multiple live projects simultaneously, with additional schemes progressing through scoping and tendering.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions that improve site efficiency and deliver value for customers.
- Work with operations teams and contractors to scope, define and cost low‑risk, cost‑effective solutions
- Enforce a zero‑compromise Health & Safety culture, including monthly audits.
- Collaborate with delivery partners and contractors to ensure timely project delivery.
- Ensure adherence to Asset Standards, relevant British/International Standards and professional codes of conduct.
- Produce financial forecasts for all live projects and report on VOWD.
- Prepare, review and approve project documentation, including pre‑construction information, programmes, RAMS and CPPs.
- Manage commissioning, training and handover of completed projects to operations teams.
- Ensure all completion documentation is delivered, including test certificates, O&M manuals, H&S files and as‑built drawings.
Location – Your base location will be the Hampton WTW site, as you will look to cover the West London sites.
This role will require you to travel to multiple sites depending on the project that you are working on. You will be required to have a full driving licence, and you will receive a car allowance, which is paid monthly.
Working Hours – Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- Preferably have a background in Electrical or ICA Engineering.
- Formal qualifications within these sectors are strongly encouraged. Ideally, holding at least a BTEC/HND in a relevant discipline or relevant experience.
- Have knowledge of Clean Water Processing.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders simultaneously.
- This includes internal colleagues, site employees and external contractors.
- Additionally, you will have the ability to work with minimum supervision, be self-motivated and driven, and use your initiative to deliver high-quality work.
- Understanding of Health and Safety standards, with particular reference to construction works, including CDM.
- Experience in Construction or Engineering Project Management.
- Offering up to £60,000 per annum, depending on experience and skills, plus £4,500 car allowance.
- 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service. (plus bank holidays)
- Generous Pension Scheme through AON.
- Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of you and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
- Performance-related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets.
