About the Role
 
Sheridan Maine is recruiting for an established and forward-thinking accountancy practice that is seeking a skilled and motivated Practice Manager to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the firm. The position offers a clear progression path, with the successful candidate working alongside current directors with a comprehensive handover period of up to 12 months. 
This is a hybrid role, combining operational leadership with client interaction, ideal for someone with strong business acumen and a passion for technology and innovation within the accounting sector. 

Key Responsibilities for the Practice Manager: 
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to client managers and team members 
  • Ensure timely preparation and sign-off of financial statements 
  • Oversee business profitability and operational performance 
  • Take responsibility for quality control and compliance processes 
  • Lead on key projects, including the implementation of MTD for ITSA 
  • Manage anti-money laundering protocols 
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts for the practice 
  • Oversee VAT returns, payroll, and pensions submissions 
  • Attend senior group meetings quarterly to support group-wide strategy 
  • Approve supplier payments and liaise with internal credit control on debt recovery 
  • Manage staff appraisals, salary reviews, holiday approval, and sick leave recording 
  • Coordinate regular CPD training for the team 
  • Collaborate with marketing on client communications 
  • Liaise with IT providers and manage technology-related issues 
  • Oversee billing, WIP reports, and project-based tasks 
 
Preferred Qualifications and Experience: 
  • Qualified ACA or ACCA (QBE candidates also considered) 
  • Previous experience in a practice management or senior accountancy role 
  • Strong organisational, mentoring, and leadership skills 
  • Proficient or familiar with accounting and practice management software, including QuickBooks, Xero, Dext, TaxCalc, BrightManager, BrightPay, Inform Direct
