Location: Flexible across UK offices (Bath, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Leeds)
Contract Type: Permanent | Working Hours: 37.5 per week
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000
Work Model: Hybrid (2-3 days working from home, remaining in-office/site visits)
We are recruiting for an experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Manager to lead HS&E across multiple UK+ offices. This role offers the opportunity to shape and enhance safety culture within an established and growing international consultancy.
Why Join?
- A privately owned, international engineering consultancy with around 3,500 employees worldwide, including 1,400 in the UK.
- Rapidly growing business, having more than doubled in size over the last few years.
- A medium-sized consultancy with a strong sense of community and a personal approach to leadership.
- Dynamic projects with innovation at the heart of operations.
- A company where people enjoy working and staying due to the culture and opportunities for growth.
Reporting operationally to the COO and working closely with the Global Health & Safety Director, you will:
- Lead the HS&E strategy and drive a strong safety culture across all UK+ offices.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and oversee internal and external audits.
- Implement and review safety policies and procedures to ensure they remain fit for purpose.
- Oversee the site safety initiative, ensuring engineers working externally are trained, equipped, and supported with dynamic risk assessments.
- Address emerging risks, including driver safety improvements.
- Work with ESG teams and office managers to support net-zero carbon initiatives.
- Oversee energy efficiency and sustainability measures, ensuring they are properly budgeted and tracked.
- Manage one direct report (who will be part of the hiring process).
- Lead on high-level incident investigations and communicate lessons learned.
Qualifications & Training
- NEBOSH Diploma
- Tech IOSH or higher
- Pragmatic and dynamic approach—an enabler rather than a rigid rule enforcer.
- Ability to influence leadership and embed cultural change.
- Experience in engineering, construction, or consultancy is beneficial, but a corporate background will also be considered.
- Strong auditing experience with ISO standards.
- Knowledge of the Building Safety Act, asbestos regulations, and refurbishment projects is an advantage.
- Experience project managing ESG or environmental initiatives is desirable.
- Strong communication skills, leadership presence, and gravitas.
- Candidates with purely contractor-based health and safety backgrounds.
