Senior Mechanical Engineer 
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days in office, 2 days remote) 
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 per annum 
Type: Full-time, Permanent

A respected building services and environmental design consultancy based in central London is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team. 

This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead mechanical design on a range of high-quality, sustainability-focused projects. The role involves delivering detailed design packages, coordinating with external consultants, and guiding junior engineers through each stage of the project lifecycle. 

The consultancy has built a strong reputation for technically excellent, environmentally responsible design, with a collaborative, people-focused approach. Projects span residential, commercial and cultural sectors in both the UK and internationally. 

Key responsibilities include: 
  • Leading mechanical design across multiple projects 
  • Carrying out thermal calculations, energy modelling, plant sizing and carbon assessments 
  • Producing detailed design reports, drawings, specifications and schedules 
  • Coordinating with external design teams and internal MEP disciplines 
  • Attending design team meetings and conducting site inspections 
  • Mentoring and delegating to junior engineers 
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations 

Essential requirements: 
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in mechanical building services design 
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or similar 
  • Proficient in thermal modelling (e.g. IES), AutoCAD and ideally Revit 
  • Strong understanding of building regulations, British Standards and CIBSE guidance 
  • Awareness of CDM responsibilities and sustainable design principles 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong organisational and leadership qualities 
  • Working towards chartership (CIBSE or IMechE)
