Job Description
OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join a well-established building services contractor in Bridgend. This senior, hands-on role offers the opportunity to lead electrical design and installation coordination across commercial, residential, education, and healthcare projects.
The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will work closely with project managers, site teams, and clients to ensure designs are fully integrated, compliant, and delivered efficiently from concept through to installation and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design development tailored to contractor project delivery, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security systems
- Prepare and review technical drawings, design calculations, and installation specifications to support site teams
- Liaise directly with site engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to resolve design and installation issues
- Ensure compliance with BS 7671, UK building regulations, and health & safety standards
- Manage project timelines and communicate progress effectively with clients and internal teams
- Support tendering and value engineering exercises by providing technical input
- Mentor junior electrical engineers and provide guidance on technical best practices
- Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery and resolve clashes
- Conduct site visits to verify design implementation and troubleshoot issues
- Degree-qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership (CIBSE, IET, or equivalent)
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in electrical design within a contractor-focused environment or building services consultancy
- Practical understanding of electrical installation processes and site coordination
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux, or similar)
- Strong knowledge of BS 7671, UK building regulations, and CDM regulations
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Proactive problem solver with a hands-on approach
- Work on high-quality, contractor-led projects across commercial, healthcare, residential, and education sectors
