Production Manager

Job summary/purpose
You will take ownership and be responsible for ensuring that resources are co-ordinated, balanced and allocated efficiently and effectively within your area to ensure a consistent flow of work within the network ensuring performance targets are met.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that production targets are met in line with Company requirements to make sure that the factory achieves the required production total and delivery dates for customers at the end of each week.
- Plan and control daily/weekly resource requirements (including materials, people, costings and equipment) across the whole floor, assessing priorities, identifying potential problem areas and reacting accordingly.
- Ensure that Health & Safety regulations are adhered to and that staff are aware of their specific responsibilities.
- Support the roll out of continuous improvement activities and Lean deployment on the bottom floor and take ownership of improvement actions and training.
- Monitor productivity and efficiencies and continually look for areas where this can be improved. Highlight where targets will not be met and agree a suitable course of action.
- Ensure that footwear production is in line with the approved Company standard focussing on the reduction of rejections through continuous improvement and adherence to Company quality standards.
- Liaise with senior management as appropriate to ensure they are kept aware of all issues relating to operating costs, employee relations and headcount. Act as an immediate point of contact for all related matters for all relevant departments.
- Develop and maintain a highly productive motivated team by encouragement and promotion of open communications, holding briefing sessions as required. Attend operational meetings as required.
- Ensure stock takes are managed in line with Company procedures.
- Initiate and be involved in appropriate training/re-training/counselling and disciplinary procedures where necessary to avoid failure of employees to reach standards or targets. Deal with any disciplinary/grievance matters that arise; liaising with Human Resources and Senior Managers for clarification and support.
- Assist in the recruitment and training of new staff. Ensure induction training for all new starters is carried out within your area of responsibility. Undertake formal performance review of team members reporting to you as necessary and ensure that probationary reviews are conducted and underperformance dealt with appropriately
- Undertake project work as required from time to time by senior management.
- Ensure integrity of wage payments through correct use of time and attendance system and agreed piecework/day rates. Additional/increased payments/rates to be authorised by the Production Manager and HR Department before being processed through payroll.
- Monitor sickness and absence within your departments through counselling sessions, Return to Work Interviews and the absence monitoring procedure; taking and progressing action as and when necessary.
- Attend any training/development sessions when required as part of your own career/personal development
- Ensure you and your team operate in accordance with Company Policy, Procedures and legislative requirements.
- Follow the principles of good hygiene and housekeeping whilst performing above duties
- Any other duties as may be assigned to meet the varying needs of the business
