As a Field Service Technician specialising in water treatment systems, you will play a pivotal role in the successful execution of service activities across the UK. Your expertise will be essential in the installation, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, chemical, and control components associated with water treatment (WT) equipment. You will ensure that each project is completed efficiently and in line with customer expectations, delivering technical solutions and services to a diverse range of clients in the water treatment industry.

Your responsibilities will require a solid background in water treatment technologies and extensive knowledge of associated control systems such as PLCs, SCADA, and DCS, ensuring seamless system performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform detailed service activities, including the mechanical, electrical, chemical, and instrumentation aspects of water treatment equipment installation, maintenance, and repair. You will ensure proper setup, calibration, and commissioning of complex water treatment systems in compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections of installed water treatment systems to ensure proper functioning, identify potential areas for improvement, and build the service jobs pipeline for the Aftersales division.
  • Collaborate with the technical department to prepare client sites for the installation of water treatment equipment. This includes liaising with customers to ensure that all logistical, mechanical, and safety requirements are met prior to installation and commissioning.
  • Oversee the testing and commissioning of water treatment projects for DNWT UK. This includes system calibration, optimisation, and troubleshooting on-site to ensure performance standards are met, while also diagnosing and resolving technical issues that may arise.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to subcontractors involved in the installation and servicing of water treatment equipment. You will assist in selecting and coordinating third-party service providers, ensuring they meet project requirements and industry best practices.
  • Manage the overall service workflow, including preparation of material breakdowns, defining work requirements, and utilising engineering to guide service tasks.
  • Utilise SCADA, PLC, and DCS platforms to control and monitor water treatment systems effectively. Your familiarity with control systems, including Siemens, Schneider, and Mitsubishi products, will enable you to resolve technical issues and optimise system performance.
  • Conduct or supervise assembly work or factory acceptance tests at vendor workshops to ensure equipment quality and readiness prior to installation.
  • Ensure that all field service activities are conducted in strict accordance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations. You will actively promote a safety-first culture and ensure all equipment and procedures meet required safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Apprentice trained / time served equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with specific knowledge of water treatment technologies and control systems such as PLC/SCADA/DCS.
  • 17th/18th edition in electrical

Work Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in field service work related to mechanical, electrical, and chemical installations within the water treatment industry.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with water treatment plants, including reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, demineralisation, and disinfection systems, is highly desirable.

Skills:
  • Ability to travel extensively across the UK (>80%) and occasionally abroad, with flexibility in working hours to meet customer demands.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Certifications such as CSCS, Water Hygiene, Breathing Apparatus (BA) & Confined Spaces, and SSSTS are essential.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues on-site, with strong analytical skills to troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical problems in water treatment systems.
